137. JOHOR TIN KATUN OCTAGONAL DOT WITH INSCRIPTION

image 1: obverse and reverse of the coin

This is my newly bought Johor tin katun. Notice the yellowish toned this specimen has. Johor tin katuns are so abundant nowadays (if you know where to find them) that you can get them at a very cheap price. But unfortunately, almost all of them were badly circulated. This is due to most of the katuns were discovered buried inside the earth, hence were not well-preserved.

Saran Singh has noted in his book that only major varieties of these Johor tin katuns were shown in his book. I think that this specimen does not belong to any of the them. The closest reference is Group D (Octagonal) Class VII ( Pusat / Dot ) , SS35. But this specimen has one extra features, which is undecipherable inscriptions on both of its obverse and reverse surfaces.

image 1: obverse and reverse of the coin

image 2: crack line on the reverse of the coin

The last edition of the second coinage of Malaysia, dated 2011 which has a die crack error on its reverse. I notice that these 2011 dated 50 cent coin are quite hard to be found circulated outside Klang Valley.

Looking forward to lay my hand onto those new yellowish 50 sen 2011 of the 3rd series!

135. Federated Malay States One Cougulant Unit October November 1941

image 1: obverse of 2 stripped units

image 2: obverse of 1 stripped unit

Can these coupons be grouped into numismatic collection?

I try to retain my interest in collecting from growing, but it seems that some items are too elusive to be ignored.

Perhaps these cougulant unit coupons are one of those who had successfully created a new department among my collection family.

The designs of these coupons are really similar like banknotes, and I suppose they are intended for security purposes.

Unfortunately I am unable to find the DECEMBER sister of this set, nor a complete 3 unstripped pieces of these coupons.

Before researching any further about these coupons, does anybody know what is cougulant? Please share your knowledge with us. Thank you in advance. :)

134. Johor Tin Katun with 8 Dots

image 1: obverse and reverse of the coin
Another dot series of Johor tin katuns. Octagonal in shape and has 8 dots on its obverse.

This coin is probably a die-struck coin, as relief area can be seen at the reverse of the coin due to the dots formation.

Her sister of 7 dots and in hexagonal shape is here.

image 1: obverse and reverse of the coin

I just found this coin at the most unexpected place; under my bed. I kind of having the intuition that this is a pre-mint clipped rim error. Please do comment regarding this coin, any explaination will be high appreciated. Thanks in advance!

132. Johor Tin Katun with Dots

image 1: obverse and reverse of the coin

Sometime this coin makes me wonder, is this a real coin? With 7 dots on its obverse, this coin is still shrouded with mystery. Purposely made for petty cash in bazaar or wet market in Johor Sultanates, this coin is one of the many varieties of Johor's katuns. Their price is very low, since very few people have interest in them, I want to try to complete every varieties. Even I already have 2 varieties which are currently unlisted.

Currently genuinity is a major problem for Malay Sultanate's coins, since no one can confirm whether these coins are genuine or not. Does carbon dating technique can solve this problem? Or compositional analysis?

130. ISLAND OF SUMATRA 1 KEPING WITH LAMINATION ERROR

image 1: obverse and reverse of the coin
image 2: lamination error?

This is a merchant coin from Island of Sumatra. Do you know that, Sumatra is being listed as the 6th largest island in the world.

By the way, I have noticed that perhaps this coin has an error. Could it be a lamination error?

129. Sarawak half cent 1933H

image 1: obverse and reverse of the coin

I am always fascinated by coins of non-integer denomination. In my years as a kid, I had had the perception that the lowest denomination was one cent. And when I discovered my first coin, which is a 1920 1 cent coin, I was so proud of it. I showed it to almost every uncles I have. One of my uncle in Kelantan, I called him Ayah Long, claimed to me that he has a more special coin. Then he showed me a 1/2 cent of Straits Settlements, dated 1932, glued at the back side of his watch. I was so fascinated by that coin that even I had no gut in asking him to own that coin. It must be very special and very rare, then I thought. I even thought that I will never own that coin when I grow up.

And now 12 years have passed. Recently I met him, and I had show him my collection. This time it is his turn to be fascinated by my collection. So I guess, possessing half coins is always be one of my dreams, in my collecting journey.

And only recently when I started to collecting more systematically, 1 year ago, I realised that there are a lot more of half coins that need to be collected. And does not include the quarter cent series, which is even scarcer than half cent series.

That is for the story side, and for the technical side, does anyone know what had caused the black shadows to form on the coin's surface? A haunted coin?

128. malaysia 1 sen 1986 damaged planchet

image 1: obverse and reverse of the coin

Pretty damaged coin. It seems that this coin is infected with some coin disease.
